Under the plan of heaven, the husband and the wife walk side by side as companions, neither one ahead of the other, but a daughter of God and a son of God walking side by side.

Close call

So, I guess we had what you would call a "close call" last night. Emerson enjoys picking out his jammies every night. Good thing he enjoys something about bedtime, right? While he was in his room picking out the perfect pair, we heard a big crash. When I went into the bedroom, his dresser had tipped over. I was terrified that Emerson might be underneath it, but then saw him standing to the side in shock. I asked if he was okay and he said he was fine. I asked what happened and he said he was getting his jammies out and it fell over. Don't know how he managed to not get trapped beneath it. Before I do sound like the worst mother in the world, there is a locking mechanism that prevents more than one drawer from being opened at a time, but it malfunctioned. I can't believe that I didn't have the dresser bolted to the wall! Isaac came in and removed the completely destroyed dresser to reveal the damaged wood floors. We are so lucky - floors and dressers can be replaced, my Emerson, on the other hand, can not. After putting the kids to bed, I went online and did some research on the best way to secure furniture and came across story after story about children who were killed when they pulled a dresser or other large piece of furniture on top of themselves. Off to the store we go today to secure every piece of furniture that could tip over. The most common things that I read from parents who had lost a child were "it could never happen to me" or "I didn't want a big hole in the wall." I'm sharing this with you because it happened to us, and we are so lucky that no one was hurt. Please secure your furniture. Who cares about the holes - they can be repaired.

It's a . . .

We were so happy that it snowed while we were in Utah. The kids haven't seen snow in 2 years! They LOVED it. They tried to catch snowflakes on their tongues. It was precious. That one thing I do miss about Utah - snow. (I don't miss being cold though . . .)

Emerson's 5th Birthday Party

So, I am a little behind on posting. While in Utah, we threw a party for Emerson at my Aunt Wendy's house. We were lucky to have so many people show up to support us. Emerson got lots of fun presents and LOVED his Batman cake. He's really into Super heroes right now. I still can't believe that he's 5. HE looks so old in the pictures. Can't believe he's starting school in a few weeks. It's going to be weird to have him gone every day.
